PRODUCTION ARTIST & PRINTER OPERATOR 

Second Empire Surfaces offers a diverse range of architectural and decorative products, including wallcoverings, tiles, artwork, and interior fixtures. As a Production Artist & Operator at Second Empire Surfaces Inc., you will be responsible for the operation of a digital wide-format printer, and all aspects of the printing process to create custom wallcoverings. As a key member of our team, the Production Artist & Operator will liaise with our multi-disciplinary design team and must have the ability to combine creative instincts with technical skills to create print products of the highest quality. The successful candidate will have a background in graphic communications and digital print, and a demonstrated understanding of electronic pre-press and post-press operations, combined with the latest printing and production technologies.

  • • Engage with colleagues to determine production requirements, offer recommendations and feedback from both a creative and technical perspective.  

    • Communicate with design team to outline workflow, challenges, or needs prior to mobilizing production. Ability to identify priorities, set deadlines, and establish creative standards from a production perspective. 

    • Review job orders to determine job specifications such as production time, colour sequence and quantities required. Review art files for deficiencies and provide correction for approval. 

    • Maintain the studio’s production inventory and timelines. Responsible for timely and quality output of all assigned jobs from docket review through production to packaging. 

    • Operate high-volume, wide-format, digital printer with latex ink. Load, set up, and unload media and inks. Operate commercial roll-cutter. Use and maintain equipment and supplies with respect and care. 

    • Adhere to Quality Assurance standards to ensure outputs are of the highest possible caliber, including post-production inspections.  

    • Recognize and visually differentiate colors. Keen perception for even the subtlest shifts in color in accordance with industry standards.  

    • Inspect all printed and cut products, ensuring quality standards are maintained and comply with specifications as noted on the work order.   

    • Print soft and hard copy proofs for internal review and approval. Address feedback and provide solutions to design or technical challenges. 

    • Ensure that the production and shipping areas are kept in a clean, safe and orderly manner, according to Health and Safety Policies.  

    • Maintain an organized and accessible digital file management system. 

    • Packaging large-format rolls for shipping. Receiving and organizing materials for inventory. 

    • Evaluating, adjusting, and creating new policies and procedures as needed for effective operations. 

  • • 3-5 years of experience working in prepress production and/or graphic arts.  

    • Adobe Creative Suite: Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.  

    • Understanding of RIP software. Please note that printer-specific training will be required. 

    • Must be PC and MAC literate. 

    • Superior (Good) score on the Farnsworth Munsell 100 Hue Test. 

    • Ability to read architectural drawings and interpret job requirements for repeats, pattern matching, murals, and dimensions is considered an asset. 

    • Physical aspects of the job include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.   

SALES REPRESENTATIVE

Second Empire Surfaces has a diverse range of architectural and decorative products, including wallcoverings, tiles, artwork, and interior fixtures. As a Sales Representative at Second Empire Surfaces Inc. you will be responsible for facilitating the sales process for the full SES product range to the Architectural and Design community, as well as other industry-related businesses including hospitality-buyers, developers, contractors, galleries, showrooms, and artisans, as well as direct to consumer, residential clients.  

As a key member of our team, the Sales Representative will liaise with our internal multi-disciplinary design team to develop sales strategies, campaigns, and identify sales channels for each collection on an ongoing basis, and to accurately communicate our brand story to potential buyers. The new Second Empire showroom located in St. John’s, NL will be open by appointment only. The Sales Representative is expected to oversee the showroom, including merchandising, art installations, and facilitating scheduled consultations under the direction of the Creative Directors. Periodic travel to client locations to build and foster relationships through product presentations and industry events is also required.  

  • Second Empire is looking for a Sales Representative who can connect our story and products to customers, find creative solutions, and work collaboratively. The individual will work as a team to handle all matters specific to customer accounts including managing client inquiries, inventory tracking, sample requests, order placement, product information, and project follow-up.  

    • Work and collaborate in a team environment to grow Second Empire business across all key market segments, which include but are not limited to hospitality and residential sectors, direct to consumer sales, and distribution partners. 

    • Liaise with suppliers, contractors, designers, clients, and artisans. 

    • Develop new and grow existing relationships to drive specifications with target consumers, markets, and architectural & design firms. Proactively plan and schedule sales calls with partners. 

    • Identify, develop, and bring to order project opportunities using the influence of A&D firms, end users and dealer contacts. Accurately collect and update customer information and project opportunities. 

    • Thoroughly understand the Second Empire product offering, technical specifications, and their value and practical use within the key market segments. Effectively present product attributes and differentiators to business partners, architects and designers. Communicate the value, quality, and ethos of the brand.  

    • Understand all sales and marketing programs and materials so you can present them to the customers. Participate in preparation of sales tools. 

    • Provide samples for specific projects and update identified product libraries with all Second Empire Surfaces designs, marketing materials, and contact information.  

  • • A bachelor’s degree in interior design or relevant area (textiles, design, graphic design, marketing) is preferred. 

    • Prefer at least three years of sales experience, or equivalent industry experience (commercial sales within the construction or interiors space desired) 

    • The successful candidate must have PC proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel. 

    • Strong business acumen and entrepreneurial drive. 

    • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 

    • Excellent presentation skills, including virtual presenting. 

    • The candidate must be able to problem-solve, prioritize, and organize tasks with excellent interpersonal and professional communication skills. 

    • Frequent Lifting up to 40 lbs.
